Alejandro Hidrogo arrived in San Felipe ten months ago in order to serve as the principal at the private Catholic school, Instituto de San Felipe de Jesus.  He is also the director of the Mexicali foundation “Manos Unidas”, a foundation dedicated to bettering the lives of financially burdened people.  One of their projects is to provide scholarships to capable young students who might otherwise not get the chance to attain a good education.  Alejandro brought this program to San Felipe after teaching in 7th, 8th, and 9th grades in a secondary school in Mexicali.

Three years ago, Kelly and her then 9-year-old daughter, Sunny, made the move from Los Angeles to San Felipe.  Upon settling down, Kelly enrolled Sunny in the private Catholic school, Instituto de San Felipe de Jesus.  While Kelly was fluent in Spanish, Sunny did not speak the language at all, a challenging obstacle to her at first, as most of the people surrounding her spoke little English, and all of her school material was in Spanish.  However, with time and patience, Sunny overcame the language barrier, and found herself adapting and gaining an understanding of the unique Mexican culture.
Still, the move from the hugely populated, bustling city of L.A. to the small, peaceful town of San Felipe was a dramatic change.
